On behalf of Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten, Koster Industrial B.V. handled the technical implementation for connecting digital information displays at the RMO (Mobile Milk Reception) unloading area. An ESP32 microcontroller was used to establish communication with the central Siemens control system.
At a busy unloading area, clear communication with milk truck drivers is crucial. Thanks to the ESP32 serving as an intelligent communication link, instructions and statuses are now displayed on the digital information displays in real time, wirelessly or via an industrial bus connection, directly controlled by the PLC system. This makes checking in and out and unloading the milk trucks considerably more efficient and safer.
For this project, we carried out the following technical activities:
-
Engineering and interface design: Designing the hardware and software connection between the Siemens PLC and the ESP32 module for reliable data transfer.
-
Hardware and electronics: Building the ESP32 control unit, including the required circuit boards, power supplies, and communication interfaces for the digital information displays.
-
Software and firmware: Programming the ESP32 to receive the PLC signals and correctly control the text display on the digital information displays.
-
Installation and cabling: Physically mounting and connecting the units and digital information displays at the unloading area.
-
Testing and commissioning: Conducting thorough tests to verify that the data appears on the screens in practice without delay or errors.
This customised ESP32 solution provides flexible and reliable control of the site's logistics, fully tailored to Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten's daily processes.
